Inspired by the incredible Manhattan Vintage show the other week, I dreamed up a concept vintage-inspired accessories brand and mocked up some packing details and digital ads for it.
Bags accumulate not just our everyday crap, but our stories. Crafting a brand for people who value timeless, one of a kind styles that tell a different story any day of the week, meant there was some room for embellishing. The feminine serif font (Monarcha) and muted earthy colors give it a soft and familiar storybook-feel, and the simple logo mirrors the seed of life symbol, which represents life cycles and gives it a mystic touch. It also looks quite satisfying in a repeat pattern, especially as a subtle detail like tape or a gloss finish on a hangtag.
The brand name - drift - suggests an ethereal quality of going with the flow, following intuition. The product speaks for itself, with styled product photography being the dominant visual, the typography and color supporting it, with limited or no copy on ads.
I wanted to further highlight the story aspect with some layered packaging that adds anticipation, like opening a gift, with custom ribbons and a (reusable) cotton dust bag.
Together, these details highlight the past (and future) lives of timeless vintage treasures, encourages thoughtful care and sustainable consumption, which is a core value of vintage lovers.
